Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman Joins Stanbic Holdings

Stanbic IBTC Holdings has just announced the appointment of Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman as an Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Company.

Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman obtained an LLB (Hons) degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Nigeria in 1981 as well as an LLM (with Distinction in “Multinational Enterprise and the Law”) from the London School of Economics & Political Science in 1987. Mrs. Suleiman commenced her career as a State Counsel with the Ministry of Justice Sokoto in 1981 and thereafter worked with Continental Merchant Bank from 1988 to 1996 and NAL Merchant Bank from 1996 to 1997.

She worked as Secretary Legal Adviser with the Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria from 1997 to 2001. She later became the Secretary and Director of Legal Services at the Securities & Exchange Commission between 2001 and 2008. Mrs. Suleiman was appointed Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Federal Republic of Nigeria in December 2008 and went on to become the Honourable Minister of State II, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2010.

In February 2012, Mrs. Suleiman was appointed Commissioner, Political Affairs, Peace and Security, ECOWAS Commission and completed her tenure at the end of April 2016. We are optimistic that her wealth of experience will be of great benefit to the group. The Board and Management of Stanbic IBTC wish her all the best as she takes on this new appointment.
