Cambodia is home but I want to play in the EPL or Serie A – Rasheed Omokafe

Nigerian-born striker Rasheed Omokafe has indicated an interest in playing in Europe’s major leagues especially the English Premier League and Italian Serie A.

The forward has played in Cambodia for five years for four different top division sides.

Rasheed said although he sees Cambodia as his second home after Nigeria, he would fancy a move to either of the European countries where he can get a chance to show the stuff he is made of.

“Although Cambodia has been like a comfort zone for me, I want to play in Europe,” – he told Footballers Connect on an Instagram Live session.

“I survived playing in Cambodia but I am still looking forward to stepping up my game to play at the highest level. The league is recognized by FIFA and players here are earning well too. Players can earn between $3000 and above, and that is not bad at all.

“Cambodia is a sweet country. It is a good place for tourists. Top Footballers, movie and music stars such as Jay-z come because they see something good here.”

“I love challenges. I always look for more opportunities to play among the best,” the former Magusa Turk Gucu of Cyprus said.

Rasheed Omokafe scored a total of 51 goals for Build Bright FC in Cambodia both gabbing 18 in his first season and 23 in the second spell before moving to Nagaworld in 2016 where he notched 14 goals. He journeyed to the Maldives where he played for about 3 months before pitching tents with Magusa Turk Gucu in Northern Cyprus.

“As soon as I got to Cyprus, I immediately made up my mind not to remain there since the league is not recognized by FIFA. I played there and left for Ethiopia, then Saudi Arabia where the deal failed due to ill-health at the time.”

On his return to Cambodia in 2020, Rasheed joined Army FC, and has netted four goals in seven games.
