Franklin Templeton is the newest entrant in the Bitcoin ETF race

Franklin Templeton has filed for a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), joining the likes of BlackRock in the race.

In its filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Franklin Templeton intends to tap Coinbase for the custody of its ETF. The ETF that would trade on Cboe BZX Exchange, Inc.

Financial heavyweights like BlackRock and Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest are betting that the SEC may soon allow a spot bitcoin ETF to hit the public markets.

San Mateo-based Franklin Templeton has made a name for itself in structured investments products like mutual funds and ETFs. This is the first time the company is filing for a spot Bitcoin ETF.
