Breaking: 1 dead, 6 rescued as building collapse in Lagos Island

A three storey building has collapsed in the Lagos Island, killing a male child while six adults have been rescued alive.

The building was said to have collapsed overnight, at Freeman Street, Lagos Island and emergency responders have since moved to the scene.

Although rescue operation is still being conducted by emergency responders, six victims have been reportedly rescued alive while a little boy was rescued dead.

Pageone gathered that the victims were asleep when tragedy struck in the early hours of Saturday 11th July.

According to the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu who confirmed the incident, the corpse of the boy had been taken to the mortuary.

He added that on-the-spot treatment had been administered to the rescued victims.

“The Agency responded to emergency calls on the collapsed building at Freeman Street, in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

“Upon arrival at the incident scene at 4 am, a three-storey building was discovered to have totally collapsed on people asleep inside. Six victims have been extricated from the rubble alive while a single male child was recovered dead.” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
