Customers of former Taxify, Bolt in panic mode after debit alerts hit their accounts

Customers of the ride-hailing company, Bolt, became apprehensive after they received several debit alerts for services not rendered.

Several customers of the tech taxi company went on Twitter and several social media platforms to complain of debit alerts they received expressing fears that the platform might have been compromised and or hacked.

In a swift response, Bolt gave out an official statement that:

“Bolt (Taxify) has not been hacked. Also, we do not store credit card data. Our payments provider is possibly experiencing issues which we are trying to clarify.”

“Should you receive these debit alerts, please confirm against your bank statements to be sure actual sums were deducted.”

“We also encourage everyone to email us at nigeria@bolt.eu with relevant details so we can assist our payment partners arrive at a speedy resolution,” the statement said.

It is not yet clear how many customers must have been affected by the alleged hack or how much was lost to the incident.

Based on what we know, the platform uses one the two most popular online payment engine which typically does not store customer card details on the server or within the app. Should the incident turn out to be a hack attack, it could compromise financial details and personal information of customers who are exposed in the hack.
