Samsung workers launch indefinite strike over pay

In a push for better pay and benefits, unionized workers at Samsung Electronics in South Korea have extended the first-ever strike at the company indefinitely.

The strike follows a three-day walkout by the members of the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU). The strike action was prompted by Samsung’s leadership failure to hold talks with the union.

Reuters reports that the NSEU is demanding a 3.5 percent increase in base salary, an extra day off to mark the union’s foundation day, and a fairer bonus system between executives and lower-ranking workers.

The NSEU wants to halt Samsung’s chip production, according to a Reuters report.
