Major bridge in Baltimore collapses after reported cargo shit hit

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, has partially collapsed, according to reports from the police and the media.

Media reports also have it that a cargo ship had hit the bridge. Workers may have fallen in water, the police force added.

The bridge collapsed at 1:35 a.m. local time on Tuesday, CNBC reports.

The extent of the damage to the 3 km (1.6 mile) bridge was not immediately clear, the New York Times said, while Fox Baltimore said the bridge had collapsed into the Patapsco River.

Videos on social media showed a major portion of the bridge collapsing into the water but there were no immediate reports of casualties, at least as of press time.
