Messaging app Telegram has chosen the TON network as its blockchain of choice. Telegram will integrate TON into its user interface.
The news caused Toncoin (TON), the blockchain’s native token, to surge 6.5% in 30 minutes.
TON’s Web3 wallet will be available to all 800 million Telegram users through their settings. The wallet is already available as a standalone bot in Telegram and has 3 million registered users.
Telegram is also rolling out a self-custodial version named TON Space to all Telegram users outside the U.S.
Telegram is popular among crypto enthusiasts and has a long history with the blockchain, which started as an internal project in 2018.
Toncoin is the 11th largest cryptocurrency with a market cap of around $6 billion, according to data from CoinMarketCap.
