A police inspector who was attached to Chiji Collins, an ex-speaker of Imo house of assembly, has been found dead in a bush.

Pageone gathered that the inspector and a driver attached to Collins, were kidnapped at Ohaji/Egbema area in Imo, a fortnight ago.

The inspector, simply identified as Charles, was said to have been riding in a Hilux vehicle alongside the driver, when the gunmen attacked.

A source told Pageone that the body of the driver was seen a few days after the abduction, while Charles’ body was recovered recently.

The body of the inspector was said to have started decomposing before it was discovered.

Henry Okoye, Imo police spokesperson, confirmed the death of the police inspector.

The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on police officers in Imo.

In May, gunmen killed two police officers in an attack at Okpala junction in Ngor-Okpala LGA of the state.

Collins currently represents Isiala Mbano constituency in the Imo state assembly. His membership of the assembly ends on June 13.

He was speaker of the assembly in 2019 and was impeached in 2020.
