In a Twitter space with Elon Musk, Florida’s governor and the Republican Party’s latest leadership candidate, Ron DeSantis, said that the current regime sees Bitcoin as a threat.
DeSantis, while officially announcing his bid for U.S president, said that the current regime might "end up killing Bitcoin in the next four years."
The latest contender for the leadership of the Republican Party said he is an advocate for crypto.
DeSantis said he views crypto as a question of civil liberties.
As Florida’s governor, DeSantis signed legislation prohibiting the use of central bank digital currencies within the state, opting for crypto which he views as a question of civil liberties.
During the interview, DeSantis insisted on Congressional authorization for a CBDC, vowing to avoid it during his potential presidency, due to concerns over its potential misuse to influence politically unfavorable purchases.
DeSantis still trails former president Donald Trump among Republican and Republican-leaning voters, with 56% supporting Trump followed by 25% for DeSantis, according to a recent poll from Quinnipiac University.
