In a leaked telephone conversation circulating the social media space, Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, begged Bishop David Oyedepo to help canvass Christian votes on the eve of Nigeria’s presidential election.
Religion became imperative in the presidential race after the flag bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, tapped a fellow Muslim running mate in a nation widely deemed evenly split between Christians and Muslims.
In the leaked tape, Peter Obi appealed to Bishop Oyedepo to speak to Christians in Southwest and Kwara.
“Good evening Daddy, I need you to speak to the Christians in southwest and Kwara, this is a religious war sir”
Responding to Peter Obi, Oyedepo said, “a sickening nation Iike Nigeria will require a strong and healthy personality, anyone whose source of wealth cannot be verified should not have access to lead a country like Nigeria. I want to assure you in the name of Jesus that the results shall be favorable, so, relax yourself, don’t be apprehensive, we will get to Kwara. God bless you. I will talk to you later today.
