Naira abuse: Actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin gets N5m bail

Justice Chukwuejekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos state, on Wednesday, granted N5m bail to Nollywood actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin.

Omoseyin, who was remanded in Kirikiri Custodial Centre on Monday after her arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly spraying new naira notes in a party, was admitted to bail in the sum of N5m with one surety in like sum.

Justice Aneke ruled that the surety in the case of a civil servant should be on Grade Level 12 and above, with evidence of three years of tax payment, among others.

The actress was arraigned on one count of tampering with the sum of N100,000 issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, by dancing on same at the party.

According to the prosecutor, S. I. Sulaiman, the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 21 (1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

On Wednesday, the judge ordered that the actress be further remanded in Kirikiri Custodial Centre, pending the perfection of the bail terms, and adjourned the matter till April 3 for trial.

The actress was arrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on February 1, 2023, along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, and was handed over to the EFCC for investigation.
