KFC Owner Yum Brands Loses Company Data in Ransomware Attack

The parent company of fast food chains KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, has lost company data to a ransomware attacker.

Yum Brands said the ransomware attack impacted “certain information technology systems." The fast food chain had to take some of its systems offline as a result.

The incident also led to the closure of roughly 300 restaurants in the United Kingdom for 24 hours, the company said.

Yum Brands said there was “no evidence” that customer data was stolen.

It is unclear when the ransomware attack began or how the company’s systems were initially compromised.
