Sad: Man drowns while riding jet ski in Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified man has been confirmed dead after drowning while riding a jet ski at the Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways.

The permanent secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu announced the incident in a statement released on Wednesday.

Osanyintolu said the victim drowned as a result of overspeeding and that the agency was unable to recover his body.

“It was discovered by the agency’s responders on duty at the lekki base that an unidentified male adult drowned at the Lekki-Ikoyi inland waterways as a result of overspeeding while he was riding on a jet ski at the said location,”Oke-Osanyintolu said.

Efforts are ongoing involving LASWA divers and LASEMA officials to retrieve the body of the adult male whose body has unfortunately sunk too deep to be rescued.”

In August 2022, four teenagers were reported dead after a drowning incident that occurred at the Elegushi beach in Lagos state.

In December 2022, three fun seekers died beside a beach facility in Lagos state.
