Lagos State Partners WACOT over the management of Imota Rice Mill

Lagos State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU), with WACOT Limited over the management of the Imota Rice Mill in Ikorodu.

WACOT is a leading food and agro-allied company and the partnersip, Lagos state seeks to tap its expertise to provide technical support and training for the state on the production of rice.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced via a tweet the signing of the MOU with the company.

The partnership is set to last for nine months in the first instance.

WACOT Rice Limited operates an integrated state-of-the-art rice mill in Argungu, Kebbi State, Nigeria. The mill is one of the largest rice mills in Sub-Saharan Africa and sources paddy from various paddy producing states across Nigeria.

The Imota rice mill has been described by the then governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, as the largest rice mill in Nigeria and is expected to start production in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Speaking after signing of the MOU , the Special Adviser on Agriculture to the governor on rice Initiative, Mr. Rotimi Fashola, said the need to produce quality and competitive rice for Lagosians necessitated the partnership.

The Head, Corporate Communication, WACOT, Rafiat Gawat said though the company is based in Kebbi State, the partnership with Lagos State was a testament to the technical ability the company is known for in the last five years.
