Tesla’s Musk bets big on humanoid robots

Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla’s most important products this year and next will not be cars.

Instead, Musk is betting big on software that drives cars autonomously and a humanoid robot that Tesla expects to aid factory work.

“I would be shocked if we do not achieve full self-driving safer than human this year. I would be shocked,” Musk said.

Tesla uses cameras and artificial intelligence, avoiding other technologies such radar and lidar that rivals such as Waymo include.

Even if the technology works, Tesla (TSLA.O) would come under more rigorous scrutiny from regulators before deploying fleets of free-roaming robotaxis, Reuters reports.

U.S. auto safety regulators opened a safety investigation into Tesla’s advanced driver assistant system after crashes involving the vehicles and parked emergency vehicles.
