Honda Motor Co has signed a joint development agreement with Boston-based EV battery company SES Holdings for lithium-metal batteries.
The Japanese automaker also announced that SES planned to list on the New York Stock Exchange through a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC) deal.
Honda intends to buy about 2% of the listed company, SES AI Corporation.
For battery-electric vehicles, lithium-metal batteries are expected to achieve higher energy density than lithium-ion batteries.
