India demands Xiaomi pays $88 million import taxes it evaded

India has found that Xiaomi evaded some import duties running up to $88 million and have ordered the Chinese smartphone giant to pay up.

Xiaomi India did not pay royalty and license fees, India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence found.

The Directorate added that three show cause notices have been issued to Xiaomi for the tax demand and recovery of 6.53 billion rupees for the period April 2017 to June 2020.
