Samsung and Micron sees Xian lockdown disrupting chip manufacturing

Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology have warned that COVID-19 curbs in China’s Xian could disrupt their chip manufacturing bases in the city.

Micron sees potential delays in the supply of DRAM memory chips caused by the COVID-19 curbs.

Micron also said the curbs may result in thinner staffing levels at its site in Xian.

The curbs are also affecting Samsung Electronics as it plans to temporarily adjust operations at its Xian manufacturing facilities for NAND flash memory chips.

The lockdown in Xian puts further pressure on global supply chains and increases already steep freight costs for exporters.

China has imposed tough curbs on travel within and leaving Xian from Dec. 23, in line with its drive to immediately contain outbreaks as they appear.
