Apple closes in on fully autonomous electric car deal with Hyundai-Kia

CNBC, while citing multiple sources, reported late Wednesday that Apple Inc. is close to a deal with Hyundai-Kia to make an Apple-branded autonomous electric vehicle at a Kia plant in Georgia.

CNBC Said that the “Apple car” is being developed by a team at Apple AAPL, and would go into production in 2024, although that date could be pushed back.

CNBC also confirmed that no firm agreement has been reached between the companies, and Apple could opt to partner with another auto maker separately or in addition to working with Hyundai.

South Korean media reported earlier Wednesday that the Korean auto maker had received a $3.6 billion investment from Apple as part of a collaboration to make electric vehicles.
