Super Eagles apologizes, promises to make up for Sierra Leone 4-4 draw

Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles have promised to make amends in future games following a 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone.

The Gernot Rohr led side lost a three-goal lead secured from the first half of their Africa Cup IG Nations Qualifier match.

Captain of the side Ahmed Musa spoke in a video message released on Twitter to apologize to Nigerians stating that the team would make up for the lost points.

“Dear Nigerians, on behalf of myself and my teammates, we are really really sorry about the game tonight. We know we made a very big mistake but that is football, sometime we win, sometimes we lose.”

“We are going to correct our mistakes and ensure that we qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. And we know that we can do it.”

Everton’s Alex Iwobi opened scoring for the host in the 4th minute before Napoli forward Victor Osimhen made it two nil. Iwobi completed his double while Villareal’s Samuel Chukwueze increased the tally to four nil.

The Leone stars grabbed what seemed like a consolation before half time and completed the route later in the second half.

Return legs comes up on Tuesday as Nigeria still tops Group L with seven points after three matches followed by Republic of Benin with three points while Sierra Leone has two, and Lesotho with one point.
