Arsenal pay Thomas Partey’s buyout clause

English Premier League side, Arsenal has paid Thomas Partey’s release clause on behalf of the player to secure his move to London.

Atletico Madrid confirmed in a statement that the club was informed by the league body that Arsenal representatives have made payments.

“LaLiga informed Atlético de Madrid at 11.28pm on Monday that Arsenal representatives have paid Thomas Partey’s release clause at the sports association’s headquarters, Atletico Madrid said.

“The player has therefore unilaterally terminated his contract with our club, which ran until June 30, 2023.”

Partey joined Atletico in 2011, and had loan spells at Mallorca and Almeria before establishing himself in Diego Simeone’s side.

He made 188 appearances in all competitions, scoring 16 goals, creating 12 assists, and picking up just one red card despite the role he plays in midfield.

Thomas Partey has 27 international caps to his name also.
