Facebook takes down network of fake Russian accounts

Facebook Inc. on Tuesday said it removed a small network of fake accounts linked to Russian operatives that attempted to recruit journalists to write articles on topics such as the Biden-Harris campaign and racial justice.

The network of 13 fake accounts and two pages with 14,000 followers was in its formative stages, said Facebook, which was tipped off by the FBI. Facebook said the operations were tied to the Russian Internet Research Agency or individuals affiliated with it.

Facebook said the takedown is part of a concentrated effort to remove disinformation from its social-media platforms in the months leading to the Nov. 3 elections.
