Six firefighter crews were called to a sorting office in Chelmsford this morning following reports of a postal worker suffering a rash from an unknown substance.
According to MetroUK, Essex Fire Service say they were called to the site on Winsford Way just before 6.30am this morning. The mail centre was then evacuated.
A specialist unit is now trying to identify the substance. A spokesperson for Royal Mail said the employee developed the ‘mild’ rash after touching the substance as they handled a parcel.
They told the BBC the worker had no other serious symptoms and was treated on site by an ambulance.
The evacuated workers have now returned to the depot.
