Tesla China continues to expand its charging infrastructure by launching V3 Superchargers in major cities.
China is the largest car market in the world and an important market for Tesla. The company’s cars are in high demand, which will only grow over time. In preparation for the expected sales growth in the country, Tesla is busy installing a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles that will satisfy customer need.
Tesla China’s official announcement from May says the company plans to expand its Supercharger network nationwide in the second half of 2020, and the current COVID-19 pandemic will not affect the plan.
Tesla currently has around 2,500 Superchargers but the number of them will increase by 60% on a continual basis after the completion of the construction of 4,000 new ones.
Tesla’s V3 Supercharger in Beijing China Central Place has started operations today. This is the third Tesla V3 supercharging station in mainland China.

The first V3 Supercharger was opened in Shanghai Jinqiao and the second in Guangzhou Changhua Creative Valley. This expansion indicates that Tesla is strengthening its presence in China, giving its customers access to the best charging options, enhancing the experience of owning their vehicles.
V3 Superchargers were unveiled in the United States in March 2019. According to the release notes under Supercharger Improvements, Model 3 owners could “charge at V3 Supercharger at up to 250 kW peak rates.” This translates to a charging speed of up to 1,000 mph, allowing Model 3 owners to cut their charging times to just around 15-20 minutes.
The rollout of Supercharger V3 stations in China makes a lot of sense, considering that the country will soon be saturated with vehicles that are perfectly compatible with the next-generation infrastructure. Giga Shanghai manufactures Made-in-China Model 3 and will soon begin manufacturing Made-in-China Model Y, both of which are compatible with Supercharger V3’s 250 kW output.
