Ancil Blackman, a Brooklyn man was shot dead on the street in broad daylight Friday, just steps from his apartment building.
The victim whho was 39 — was slain about 5:30 p.m. outside the Miller Evangelical Christian Union Church, near his home between Bedford and Rogers avenues in Crown Heights, said police.
Relatives said Blackman was shot on his way home from work. Rachel Charles, an in-law, said Blackman’s relatives mistook the gunshots for fireworks.
“We were laughing at the firecrackers — but then we got a call that Ancil had been shot,” said Charles.
A police source at the scene said Blackman was shot twice, once in the neck and once in the back.
“He was face down on the floor, bleeding out of his mouth,” said witness Maryam Yehia, 25, who works in a bodega.
Police rushed to the scene, and video shows an officer administering CPR in a desperate attempt to save Blackman’s life.
An EMS crew rushed Blackman to Kings County Hospital, but he could not be saved.
“It is crazy. We still think he’s going to get out of the hospital. We are still waiting for him to come home — but he’s passed away,” Charles said. “We don’t know who would do this, or who would have a motive.”
Police had made no arrests in the case as of Friday night.
