Kelechi Nwakali took around £11,000 pay cut to join Huesca

Nigerian international Kelechi Nwakali has revealed that he took a pay cut at Arsenal to join Spanish Segunda side Huesca.

Nwakali’s Huesca recently gained promotion to La Liga following a Defeat for leaders Cadiz at home while the Azulgranas triumphed 1-0 against Sporting Gijon.

Nwakali who was on the books of Arsenal said he also received words of Arsenal and Nigeria’s ex-international Kanu Nwankwo before making the move to Huesca.

“I took a pay cut of about £11,000 to join Huesca,” – Nwakali said in a chat with EaglesTracker on Instagram.

“Kanu Nwankwo encouraged me when I wanted to make the move, and he advised me well. I needed playing time, that was why I made the move.”

He had stints at MVV Maastricht (twice), VVV Venlo, and FC Porto B following failure to secure a spot at English Premier League side Arsenal.

Nwakali was captain of Nigeria cadet side that in 2015 at U-17 FIFA World where he won the golden ball, he has featured for Nigeria’s U-20 side and currently has one cap for the Super Eagles.
