Zindzi Mandela, daughter of Nelson Mandela dies at 59

Daughter of Nelson Mandela, Zindzi Mandela, the eldest daughter of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has died at the age of 59.

She died in a hospital in Johannesburg hospital in early Monday morning, 13th July.

Zindzi’s death has however been confirmed by the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Zindzi Mandela’s son, Bambatha also confirmed her death by sharing a photo of his mother with the caption “Rest in Peace”.

Zindzi is survived by her husband and four children.

She was South African’s ambassador to Denmark, she took the position in 2015.

Zindzi was only 18 months old when her father was sent to prison. Her mother was also imprisoned many times, leaving her in the care of her elder sibling, Zenani.

Zindzi is a poet and her poems has been published on several occasions.

One of her works includes ‘Black As I Am’, which contains pictures taken by revered Drum magazine journalist, Peter Magubane.

The cause of her death has not been reviewed.
