The Senior Minister to Ghana’s president, Yaw Osafo-Maafo in Ghana has tested positive for Covid-19, the Information Minister has disclosed, Tuesday.
According to MyjoyNews, the development was announced while he was addressing the press during its weekly update, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the Minister had given him the permission to disclose this to the public.
According to him, “The Senior Minister has been informed that his sample given for testing has returned positive. He will therefore as of today (June 7, 2020) commence treatment for Covid-19 from home.”
On Monday, President Nana Akufo-Ado was announced to have gone on a 14-day self-isolation after “at least one person within his close circle tested positive for Covid-19.”
In a statement by the Information Minister of Ghana, Kojo Nkrumah, the statement reads in part:
On the advice of doctors, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is from today, July 4, 2020 taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self- isolation measure in compliance with Covid-19 protocols.
“The President has elected to do so after at least one person within his close circle tested positive for Covid-19 today. He has, as at today, tested negative, but has elected to take this measure out of the abundance of caution.”
“The President will during this precautionary self-isolation period, be working from the Presidential Villa at the Jubilee House, Accra,” the statement said.
