Police commission dismisses 10 officers, demotes eight over misconduct

The Nigerian Police Service Commission has dismissed 10 senior police officers and demoted eight others for misconduct in the line of duty.

The commission took this decision at its eight plenary meeting which spanned 3 weeks and ended last Wednesday.

During the plenary meeting, the commission also approved the promotion of 6,618 senior police officers, including a Deputy Inspector-General of Police.

The officers dismissed include a Superintendent of Police, five Deputy Superintendents of Police and four Assistant Superintendents of Police.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Police Service Commission, Ikechukwu Ani, on Monday 6th July in Abuja, the commission also demoted a Deputy Commissioner of Police, a Chief Superintendent of Police, four Superintendent of Police, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and an Assistant Superintendent of Police.

“The commission also approved the punishment of severe reprimand for 16 officers, reprimand for 13 and letters of warning to four others. Two officers are to receive letters of advice while 11 were exonerated.

“The commission in plenary looked into 83 disciplinary cases which included 18 appeals and petitions.” The statement reads.
