Maltese gambling company, Betway takes over lead sponsorship of Big Brother Naija

Malta-based gambling company, Betway Group has been announced as the lead sponsorship of the 2020 edition of the Big Brother Naija reality show.

People with the knowledge of the matter said, Betway would have paid in the region of $1 million to $1.5 million for the lead sponsored title.

Last year, Nigeria’s BetNaija was the the lead sponsor of the show with a rumoured price tag of close to $5 million.

Despite the crash in the lead sponsorship price tag, the company was said to have declined the offer of first right of refusal for obvious and prevailing reasons.

With the adverse effects of the Novel Coronavirus, people with the knowledge of the matter claimed that BetNaija opted out of the partnership as a result of poor economic conditions and the adverse effects it has on the game of football, football betting and gambling at large.

Popularly called BBNaija, the Big Brother Naija reality show owned by South Africa’s Multichoice Group via its DStv platform is the most watched TV reality show after the demise of the Gulder Ultimate Search.

The flagship brand, “Betway”, is an international gambling company that operates across regulated online marketplaces and holds licences in the UK, Malta, Italy, Denmark, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Mexico, South Africa and Ireland.

Recently, the company confirmed that it has acquired a license for sportsbook and casino from the Portuguese regulator.

It is confirmed that the Betway brand has the license 021 for sportsbook and 022 for online casino activities within the Portuguese market.

The Betway Group is based in Malta and Guernsey, with support from London, Cape Town and the Isle of Man,[3] and is a member of the European Sports Security Association the Independent Betting Adjudication Service, the Remote Gambling Association and is accredited by international testing agency eCOGRA.
