NiMET says there will be thunder and cloudy weather between Tuesday and Thursday

As the raining season gets underway, The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has predicted that there will be thunderous and cloudy weather between June 23 to June 25.

NIMET said in a statement that:

“Cloudy morning is anticipated over the north with chances of few thunderstorms over Katsina, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Gusau Kaduna, and Zaria axis in the afternoon&evening period.”

“The central cities are expected to be cloudy however, patches of thunderstorms are probable over Minna in the morning. Later in the daylight thunderstorms are envisaged over Jos, Abuja, Kwara and Minna. Over the south, intermittent rains are likely in the morning.”

“As the day progresses, few thunderstorms are probable over the inland with chances of light thunderstorms and rains over the coasts,” the statement said.

In the last one week, the thunderstorms and heavy downpours has led to a series of flooding and destruction of property across major coastal cities in Nigeria.

Last week, three Federal Road Safety Corps officials have died after they were struck by lightning in Ogun State, Nigeria.

The incident occurred on Wednesday 17th June, in the ancient town of Ilese, close to Ijebu-Ode, in Ijebu North-East local government area of Ogun State.

The lightning struck at about 10am on Wednesday morning, while Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials were preparing for the early morning parade within the vicinity of their office located at the old toll gate.
