Governor Akeredolu fires media aide to estranged deputy

Rotimi Akeredolu

The Special Assistant on New Media to the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi, Mr. Allen Sowore, has just been fired.

The state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, was said to have accused Sowore of recording video showing the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami, stopping the deputy governor from leaving the Government’s House.

PUNCH reported that Sowore was said to have also made comments in support of the deputy governor’s action on Adaba FM on Monday.

Sowore’s sacking takes immediate effect, according to a statement issued on Tuesday in Akure by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olusegun Ajiboye.

The statement read, “The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has relieved Mr Allen Sowore of his appointment with immediate effect.

“Until his sack, Mr Sowore was a Special Assistant to the governor on New Media.

“Mr Sowore is advised to submit all government’s properties in his possession to the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

“The Governor wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavour,” the statement said.

On Sunday, a confusing drama unfolded at the Ondo State government house when the state’s commissioner of police detained the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the CP said:

“You have defected, your letter has been brought to my office.”

Ajayi replied, “If I have defected, what is your own? CP, are you the chairman of APC, are you the chairman of PDP? What is your concern if I defect?

There has been no love lost between the deputy governor and the governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu.
