Is this the man behind the demolition of Nigeria High Commission building in Ghana?

Nigeria High Commission

Less than 48 hours after the serious attack that led to the demolition of a building at the Nigeria High Commission in Ghana, the identity of the man who could have been the mastermind of the attack has now being revealed.

A Ghanaian monarch who has been identified as Nii Okwei Dowuona VI is perhaps the mastermind of the demolition attack. He is the monarch for the Osu Traditional Area.

In a report by PremiumTimes, Dowuona said the Nigerian High Commission trespassed on a plot of land that belongs to the traditional area. According to him, the entire Osu Mantse layout belongs to the Osu Stool, a council of local chiefs and not state-owned.

Earlier today, Nigeria’s summoned the Chargè d’ Affaires of the High Commission of Ghana to Nigeria.

In a statement on his Twitter handle, Onyeama said:

“Summoned the Chargè d’ Affaires of the High Commission of #Ghana to Nigeria, Ms Iva Denoo to demand urgent explanation on the recent attacks on a residential building in our diplomatic premises and reinforcement of security around diplomatic premises and staff.”

The government of Ghana through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has apologized over the attack on buildings belonging to the Nigeria High Commission in Accra.

Yesterday, the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration said it will punish all the people behind the demolition of a building belonging to the Nigeria High Commission.

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said in an apologetic tone that:

“It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration that unidentified individuals had allegedly breached the premises of the Nigeria High Commission in Accra and demolished its property under construction around 10:30pm on Friday, 191h June, 2020.”

“The Ministry views, with concern, this development which is a breach of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations (VCDR, 1961).”

“Accordingly, investigations are ongoing to unravel the facts of the matter and bring the perpetrators to book. Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana has beefed up security at the said facility and the situation is under control.”

Whilst expressing regrets over the incident, the Ministry wishes to reassure the Diplomatic community in Ghana and the Nigeria High Commission in particular, that Ghana remains a law-abiding country that upholds the principle of the rule of law, where due process is followed at all times.

“The Government will, therefore, not relent on its primary obligation to guarantee the safety of Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana.”

Earlier today, we reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama announced that some unknown persons carried out an attack on a residential building at the Nigeria High Commission in Ghana Ghana.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter handle, the Minister said:

“We strongly condemn two outrageous criminal attacks in Accra, #Ghana, on a residential building in our diplomatic premises by unknown persons in which a bulldozer was used to demolish the building.”

“We are engaging the Ghanaian Government and demand urgent action to find the perpetrators and provide adequate protection for Nigerians and their property in Ghana,” he said.

The government of Ghana is yet to respond to the incident.
