Coronavirus patient who escaped treatment caught selling Okirika in Ondo market

A female Coronavirus patient who escaped from getting treatment was arrested on Saturday 6th June, at Oja-Oba market in Akure while selling Okirika (second hand clothes).

According to reports, the woman was diagnosed with Coronavirus in Imo State before she travelled to Akure, the capital of Ondo State without submitting herself for treatment.

The Independent reported that the Ondo state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro said that the Governments of Imo State and Ondo State mounted surveillance for the patient after discovering that she had escaped.

Dr. Adegbenro said that while the woman is being treated at the state Infectious Disease Hospital, in Igbatoro road, Akure, contact tracing of the patient’s friends, family members, and neighbours had begun.
He also urged those who transacted business with the woman to report themselves for testing.
