Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has stated unequivocally that he is confident his team would perform better in his second term.

The Franco-German recently renewed his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation for another two years amidst reports suggesting that England’s Harry Redknapp was lined up to replace him.

Earlier in the week, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick revealed the conditions in the new contract which include a mandate to qualify the country for the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar and also win the next Afcon in Cameroon.

“When I arrived in Nigeria, they already told me its a two-year contract, you must go to the World Cup or the next Afcon, if you don’t you go, he told ESPN’s Colin Udoh in a chat.

“I already accepted it, and we did it. So, I am not afraid now. I am very optimistic that we can go to the next AFCON again and play very well.

“Our dream now is to go to the next world cup in Qatar and make a great World Cup. The average age of our team now is 23-24, there will be a lot of experience and maturity. My players will be at the highest level for Qatar and at the end of 2022.

“Our style of football will be going forward, going quickly from behind with quality touches and our game philosophy will in a bigger complexity than in the past. If we can find stability in some departments, we are optimistic all together.

Gernot Rohr succeeded Nigeria legend Sunday Oliseh in 2016, he has helped the country qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia but could not go past the group phase. He also led the Eagles to third place in 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
