In the wake of what has become a sizzling discourse in the Nigerian football community, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that he rejected some job offers just to remain with Nigeria.
Rohr whose contract with Nigeria is billed to expire in June 2020 disclosed in an Instagram Live chat with Nigerian ace journalist, Colin Udoh, amid talks of details in his yet to be received contract renewal.
Earlier in the week, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick had in an interview with Arise TV disclosed that the coach has been notified of the conditions needed to be agreed upon to see that he continues at the helms of the national team.
“I have a few offers from other countries but i refused because I’m still under contract here,” Rohr said.
“I want to go to the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup, it is clear that I have the motivation and my employers are aware.
Early in the year, Rohr met with the leadership of the NFF but insisted that his contract matters are not meant for the public.
“I cannot disclose what we discussed at the meeting, it is very confidential,” he continued.
“My philosophy is not to speak about contracts in public, it is even written in my contract. But I saw just like you what has been said in the media but i cannot comment on it.”
“I am happy to continue working with Nigeria. We are like family. We have many games lined up for us in the second half which could be up to about 10 or 20.”
Gernot Rohr became the coach of the Super Eagles in 2016 and has since led the team to both 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Russia and Egypt respectively.
