Former Nigeria Captain Vincent Enyeama has dispelled the popular notion that the match against Lionel Messi’s Argentina at the 2010 FIFA World Cup was the best of his career.
Enyeama produced an impressive showing against La Albiceleste, single handedly denying Barcelona superstar Messi on numerous occasions.
However, Gabriel Heinze’s early opener saw Diego Maradona’s side run out 1-0 victors but the goalkeeper was named Man of the Match; one which many have dubbed his greatest performance in a green and white jersey, but the ex-Super Eagle has other options.
Duels against African sides, Tunisia (quarterfinals of the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations) and Senegal are what the former Lille shot-stopper reckons his best.
“That match against Messi was not my best moment,” Enyeama said in an Instagram Live chat with Colin Udoh.
“I had a better game against Greece, even against African teams, but Messi is world class.”
“What would you say about Tunisia where I stopped three penalties, against Senegal we won 2-1 in the same tournament. I can mention many games like that.”
Vincent Enyeama’s heroics from 12-yard out against the Carthage Eagles helped Augustine Eguavoen’s side proceed to semifinals of the 2006 Afcon.
