Vodacom is cutting data prices in South Africa by 40%

In the aftermath of a regulatory order, South Africa’s Vodacom Group said it has agreed to reduce the cost of its data products by as much as 40%.

The decision is was pushed by a finding that the country’s mobile data prices were the highest on the continent, the watchdog said on Tuesday.

It would be recalled that in December the competition watchdog warned that Vodacom and rival MTN faced prosecution if they did not agree to cut data prices within two months of the findings.

MTN Group Limited has not announced a cut in its data prices.
