While the recent appointment of Joseph Yobo as Super Eagles Assistant Coach has continued to generate diverse comments among football fans, the ex-Everton of England defender has described the opportunity as a privilege.
The Nigeria Football Federation had announced Yobo was announced as replacement for Imama Amakpakabo on Thursday.
Yobo took to social media to express his joy stating that he is ready for the new challenge.
“Delighted to announce my appointment as the new Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles. I’m honoured to be given this opportunity to serve, Yobo said on Instagram.
“I’m ready and I am looking forward to this new chapter.”
It is expected that former Marseille, Fenerbache, and Norwich defender will provide experience and quality to the backline.
He is the second most capped player, he won the first of his 100 caps for Nigeria against Zambia in Chingola in 2001.
However, in the social media circle, many have questioned the appointment of the 39-year old citing his lack of coaching experience and training certificate.
Some have also asked if Gernot Rohr was consulted prior to the announcement of Yobo by the federation. How events would turn out remains to be seen in the nearest future.
