Jack, Dorsey, the founder and chief executive of Twitter Inc., one of the world’s largest social networks has just arrived in Nigeria.
Jack shared a tweet via his official handle that: ‘So grateful to finally be in Nigeria’.
While it is not clear what engagement or mission brought him to Nigeria, the coming of Jack into Africa’s largest economy is at a pivotal period in the history of Nigeria and Twitter itself as a very influential social media network.
Last week, Jack announced that Twitter will be stopping political advertising in any form and shape. Nigeria also announced through its Federal Ministry of Information that it will be regulating social media usage. While the government has not given details, there are concerns that regulation could gag free speech and freedom of the media.
The Nigerian government had in the past raised serious concerns on the spread of fake news and propaganda on social media and the risk they pose on country’s security and political stability.
