Global oil giant, Chevron Corporation will be building a condensate splinter refinery for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
In an emailed statement, the NNPC said the partnership is “part of efforts to grow local refining capacity.”
According to the statement, the NNPC is still seeking the collaboration of Chevron in the development of the refinery.
Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari said:
“We hold Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) in very high esteem for her efficiency and cost optimization. We look more up to the company to increase production and reserve, reduce cost and increase local refining capacity”
He requested for collaborating with NNPC to increase crude oil production and grow reserves in the country, stressing that NNPC was ready to work with Chevron to ensure that the Final Investment Decision (FID) on NLNG Train 7 was taken soonest for the benefits of all the investors.
In his response, the managing director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Jeff Ewing, said his company was prepared to work with the new management of NNPC to grow production.
There are no dates on actual commitments on when any project is likely to start.
