Facebook says outage glitch is now resolved

Facebook Inc said a software glitch that prevented many of its users from downloading and uploading images and files has now been resolved.

The outage which affected Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp led to thousands of complaints worldwide.

Facebook said in a statement that:

“During one of our routine maintenance operations, we triggered an issue that is making it difficult for some people to upload or send photos and videos.”

There were calls from certain quarters that Facebook ought to compensate advertisers for loss of revenue during the outage. The company has not commented on the matter.

According to its official data, Facebook has about 2 billion users. Instagram has about 1 billion while its popular messaging app, WhatsApp has about 1.2 billion users worldwide.

The negative impact of the service outage led to various complaints on Twitter and other online forums.
