The current managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde is to take over as the president of the European Central Bank.
Lagarde will be taking over from Mario Draghi.
As part of the new wave of higher at the EU monetary policy spheres, Germany’s foreign minister, Ursula Von Der Leyen, has also been appointed as the president of the European Commission.
Lagarde and Ursula will both be the first two women to lead both EU organizations. In recognition of the historic nature of these appointments, Donald Tusk, President of the European Council said the two appointments was a “a perfect gender balance.”
