Singapore to decide Huawei’s bid as it commits $30 million to 5G rollout

China’s Huawei could know the fate of one of its major 5G bids as the government of Singapore has announced that it will commit a minimum of $30 million to its 5G rollout plan.

Singapore has been mulling its plan to carry out 5G next-generation telecommunication network tests but it did not make known how much it will put behind the project.

The 5G test which is supposed to take steam by 2020 and it is part of its plan to be “a global front-runner in impactful 5G use cases”.

The government said it will choose the right partner by the first quarter of next year.

The importance of 5G to Singapore cannot be overemphasized. The technology will connect up cars, machines, cargo and crop equipment.

China’s Huawei was one of the prominent 5G network equipment providers that bid for the project but it could face possible backlash in its bid. After placing a ban on the company, the U.S. has tried to rally its partners to shun Huawei’s equipment over allegations of possible back doors in its technology, Huawei has denied the claims.

However, Singapore has not taken any action against the Chinese telecoms giant.
