There are indications that China’s Huawei Technologies Co Ltd could be opting to use Russia’s mobile operating system, Avora OS.

According to a Reuters report, Russia’s RIA news agency said Huawei has started discussions with the Russian communications ministry this summer on the possibility of using the Avora OS.

The medium said the Russian deputy communications minister was the source of the information.

The development is coming few weeks after Huawei hinted that it will start shipping it’s smartphones for the China market with its Ark OS nicknamed Hongmeng.

A mobile industry analyst told PageOne’s Business desk that the strategy to opt for Avora OS might be a move to test its chances of using a non Android OS for its devices in across Europe.

Huawei was placed on US’ ‘Entity List’ which banned the company from doing business in and with any American company. Alphabet Inc’s Google said last month that it will exempt Huawei’s devices from getting updates on its Android OS.

Huawei could not be reached for comments.
