America’s Uber Technologies Inc, said it would stop its services in Austria should the country subject it to price regulations.
Austria’s parliament is about to enact a law that will subject Uber to the same price regime as traditional taxi companies.
“If that comes, then a withdrawal definitely cannot be ruled out,” Uber Austria chief Martin Essl told ORF radio. “We probably cannot continue with this backward-looking amendment.”
According to a report to Reuters, the new law, which could pass parliament as early as July and would apply from September next year, provides that Uber would have to apply the same tariffs as taxis.
