Canada refuse to halt Huawei CFO extradition

Canada said it will not halt the extradition trial of the chief financial officer of Huawei Technologies Co Ltd Meng Wanzhou.

Last December, Canada arrested Huawei’s Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou,at Vancouver airport on behalf of United States over financial crimes allegations for her part in doing business with Iran in violation of US sanctions on the country.

Meng has been fighting her extradition to the US

The country foreign affairs spokeswoman said in Washington that any interference on the matter will set a dangerous precedent.

“When it comes to Ms Meng there has been no political interference … and that is the right way for extradition requests to proceed,” Freeland told a televised news conference in Washington.

“It would be a very dangerous precedent indeed for Canada to alter its behavior when it comes to honoring an extradition treaty in response to external pressure,” she said.

In retaliation for Canada’s role, China has stopped importation of Canada’s cranola and has suspended licenses of pork exporters to Canada.

America’s ban on Huawei has affected the company across it’s 5G telecommunication network business as well as its smartphone business where Google has banned the company from Android OS.
