America’s computer chipmaker, Advanced Micro Devices, AMD, has entered into a partnership that will see the company take on one its biggest rival.
The strategic partnership which has just been entered into with Samsung Electronics Co Ltd. will see AMD licensing its chips design to Samsung for the mobile maker’s smartphones and mobile devices.
The company will be paid royalties for intellectual property to be used by Samsung. The tie-up with Samsung will enable AMD to compete with Nvidia Corp.
AMD’s Chief Executive Officer Lisa Su told Reuters that the “Strategic partnership will extend the reach of our high-performance Radeon graphics into the mobile market, significantly expanding the Radeon user base and development ecosystem.”
