MIT ends collaboration with Huawei, ZTE

America’s foremost technology and science university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) it has cut collaborations with Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp.

MIT said it is ending the relationship as a result of the U.S. federal investigations of the Chinese technology companies’ alleged violations of sanctions.

“MIT is not accepting new engagements or renewing existing ones with Huawei and ZTE or their respective subsidiaries due to federal investigations regarding violations of sanction restrictions”, Maria Zuber, MIT’s vice president for research, said in a statement.

Neither Huawei nor ZTE have reacted officially to the matter.

Huawei and ZTE have come under intense scrutiby and prosecution in the United States after it was alledged to have facilitated businesses with Iran while the latter was under US sanctions.

There are also concerns that Huawei which is the world’s largest telecoms company might be sharing its data with the Chinese government. Series of critisms have also allegfed that Huawei steals American intellectual property, Huawei has denied all allegations and baseless and unfounded.
